FAQ
-
What are the benefits of having a doula?
Studies have shown that the presence of a doula can lead to improved outcomes, including a decreased risk of dissatisfaction with the birth experience, fewer admissions to special care nurseries for babies, and increased rates of breastfeeding.
-
Will a doula make decisions on your behalf?
No. I will help you gather information and ask questions (e.g., "What are the risks and benefits of this intervention?") so you can make confident, informed decisions for yourself and your baby. Your birth choices are always respected.
-
Will you support my choices if I want an epidural or a C-section?
Yes. My personal opinions do not matter; your emotional and mental well-being are my priority. I will support you in the birth plan you choose, providing comfort techniques and information every step of the way, regardless of whether your birth is medicated, unmedicated, vaginal, or a C-section.
-
Will a doula replace my partner in the delivery room?
Absolutely not. My role is to support both you and your partner, working alongside you as a united team. I'm dedicated to ensuring your partner feels confident and comfortable in their own role, offering guidance and hands-on tips so they can be the best possible support person for you. I can also step in to provide them with short breaks when needed, ensuring they can participate in the birth experience at a level that feels right for them.

Do you accept insurance?
Some health-shares & group health plans will cover doula care, please check with your individual plan.
Our practice is on track to accept South Dakota Medicaid clients in 2026, pending final state approvals. Most employer-sponsored health insurance does not cover doula care, but always worth checking with your insurance provider.

Is a doula the same as a midwife?
No. Midwives are medical professionals. As a doula, I provide non-medical comfort and support measures. Doulas also provide mental & physical support during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Along with trusted resources to help you make informed decisions.
